The RICOH ScanSnap SV600 is an overhead document scanner designed to digitise bound, fragile, and oversized documents without physical contact. Unlike traditional flatbed scanners, the SV600 captures documents from above, making it ideal for books, magazines, historical archives, maps, photographs, artwork, and other delicate originals that cannot be fed through a conventional scanner.

Using advanced VI (Versatile Imaging) technology, which combines a CCD linear image sensor, a large depth-of-field lens, and highly directional LED lighting, the SV600 produces consistently sharp, evenly illuminated scans while minimising image distortion and shadows. Book Image Correction automatically compensates for page curvature, ensuring clear, readable images from bound materials.

The scanner supports documents ranging from business cards up to A3 landscape size and can capture multiple small documents simultaneously, automatically cropping each image into separate files. Continuous scanning with page-turn detection and timed capture further improves productivity when digitising books or magazines.

Because scanning is completely contactless, valuable or fragile documents remain protected throughout the capture process. The user interaction retouch function automatically removes fingers from scanned images when holding documents in place during scanning.
