Its innovative dual-path scanning mechanism allows passports, ID cards, driver's licences, and standard A4 documents to be scanned on the same device without changing accessories or switching paper paths. Passports, including their Machine Readable Zone (MRZ), and ID cards up to 5 mm thick can be scanned directly from the front of the scanner, allowing documents to remain in the customer's sight throughout the process.

The fi-800R features an ultra-compact design with a unique U-turn paper path and Automatic Stacking Technology, allowing scanned documents to exit back through the top of the scanner. This eliminates the need for a front output tray and significantly reduces the scanner's footprint, making it ideal for reception desks, bank branches, hospitals, hotels, government offices, and customer service counters where space is limited.

With scanning speeds of up to 40 pages or 80 images per minute and a 20-sheet automatic document feeder, the scanner supports efficient processing of everyday business documents. Active Separation technology and Automatic Skew Correction ensure reliable paper feeding, reducing document jams, rescans, and interruptions during busy customer interactions.

The fi-800R includes PaperStream IP for automatic image enhancement, improving image quality for OCR and downstream document processing. PaperStream Capture further automates document capture by recognising document types, applying the correct scanning profiles, extracting information such as passport MRZ data, and automatically indexing and routing scanned files into existing business applications and workflows.
